DMA 102 Assignment

This blog is all about Blogging. As you can guess by the address.

I enjoy blogging to keep my events in order, and documented. I enjoy sharing things with my family across the world in England. I enjoy that my friends in Australia can see what my kids are up to. I enjoy that you don't have to read it if you don't want to. I enjoy not filling up some one's email with my life moments. I enjoy seeing what my friends are doing!

Can you tell I ENJOY BLOGGING!

Here is a link to my family blog Sarchet's . I also list other blogs that I follow. Friends and people that I find inspirational.

I hope that my teacher at Bellevue College finds this blog to his satisfaction for my assignment. :-)

Where- Blogging?

ANY WHERE!

People can blog any where! As long as you have an internet connection you can post things to a blog.

It literally took 2 minutes to set up this blog. If you need help figuring it out google it, or here are some basic steps - just click here.

People blog all over the world. Some countries and governments do not appreciate this. Free speech is something that we enjoy in the US. We forget that others can be risking thier life if they post the wrong thing.  In Singapore you can be sent to prison for posting Anti-Muslim remarks. In Egypt a blogger was sentenced to prison for insulting Islam and inciting sedition.

Good Rule of Thumb: Not everything on the Internet is correct!

Who- Blogs?

ANYONE!

This is the beauty of it! You don't have to be a News Reporter or a Journalist from a big company. You can be a Soccer Mom or a kid sharing his artwork with friends.

The list is long for who blogs:

  • Business
  • News Channels
  • Political Groups
  • Advertisers
  • Grandma's
  • Social Groups
  • Book Clubs
  • Schools
  • Geneologist
I really could include just about any one and everyone. If you have something to say and you would like to share it, you can have a blog. I am not saying everyone one reads your blog. There are too many blogs for any one to do that.

Some simple guidelines for Blogging:
  1. Take Responsibility not just for your own words, but for the comments you allow on your blog.
  2. Label your tolerance level for abusive comments.
  3. Consider eliminating comments.
  4. Ignore the Trolls.
  5. Take the conversation offline, and talk directly, or find an intermediary who can do so. (if you have problems)
  6. If you know someone who is behaving badly, tell them so.
  7. DON'T SAY ANYTHING ONLINE THAT YOU WOULD NOT SAY IN PERSON.
When blogs first started it was a problem to keep the comments under control. Now a days if some one wants comments or wants to hassle some one they do it mostly on Face Book. Same goes if some one wants comments or a discussion they will take it to Face Book for a more immediate response.

What- Blogging

What is a blog and how did this form a writing start.

From what I understand it started in the late 1990's.  January 1994 Justin Hall created first blog ever. The name blog came from a term "weblog" coined by Jorn Barger. Peter Merholz joking broke the word "weblog" into blog. It seemed to stick after that. He used it as a noun and a verb.

It started as a way for an individual to talk about a single subject to a small group of people and then get comments back and start a conversation. Now it is a format that individuals use and large groups of people.

Companies use it to discuss topics, or products. Multi-media is used freely on the sites from video, photos, music and podcasts. Some blogs even have live streaming capabilities. I am sure some thing new will be used on blogs soon.

Why Blog?

We all have our own different reasons to blog. My reason is simple.

I forget everything too quickly!!!

Having family and friends in far away places is another reason to blog. This new type of communication is so Awesome. If people choose to see what my little family is up to they can take a look.

We have all received the Christmas letter from friends and said, there is no way I am reading all of this. It just goes on and on. Blogs can catch people up with pictures and videos. They can have music and type together. Stories and are so much more interesting with visuals! Helps those with ADD also. :-)

So now I can direct people to my blog for information. They can choose to read it or scan the photos or don't go any further. I don't care! If they care they will go and check it out.

I love to go back and review what things have been going on with my family. What did we do last year for the summer. What did the kids get for Christmas last year. Who visited us two years ago. All that is easily recalled for us with short term memory problems.

Love it!
